Tyranids, Tervigon with 8 limbs?

ok so, I was messing around with the tervigon concept again. Just trying to make it less like a carnifex. I have a plan to put the third row of spine vents on them, but waiting on the parts. anyway, I was thinking about support talons, like in the description, to support it's weight. I mocked up putting an extra set of talons, which actually doesn't look too bad, but it put's the limb count up to 8! Although, it doesn't look to bad, just trying to decide should they be more front and defensive, or on the sides and open. what do you think? like them? front or side?

Edit: I have an idea; I could stick to six limbs and still get the extra support talons, with two forarms at the elbow! Just like the venomcannons and other large bioweapons. The arm starts off normal which then splits at the elbow with two forearms, just like the venomcannon. but instead of the two hands fused to the gun, the hands each have scything talons.

Tyranids, Tervigon Update!

The main comment I had about the start of my Tervigon was that it looked too much like a big Carnifex, it was true, but I was stumped. I needed to add a row of spine nubs along the center of the back, but I just couldn't come up with a good solution to the birthing chamber. until now!

Ravener kit to the rescue! hahahaaa! Seriously that kit comes with 12 chests for 3 dudes, so lots of left overs.

I thought about adding a large carnifex spike out the front of the birthing chamber curved up under the chin, a side profile would make it look like the hive guard, but I'm not sure. I also thought about using the barbed strangler sac and tube attached under the hip with the tube going to where the back spike is on the birthing chamber, but meh, not sure about that either. With the Mawloc jaws on each side, they look like broken ribs, kind of like the codex picture for the Tervigon, which is always cool.

I removed the crushing claws so you can have a good look at the birthing chamber.  There is still work to do. Anyway, here's the latest update, what do you think?

Tyranids, Harpy!

Here is the Harpy. Using the left over bits from the trygon kit used to make the Tervigon, a Carnifex tail and body, 2 venomcannons (but you could easily use barbedstranglers if you would like.), and of course balrog wings. I also used a pair of spinefists for the spore-bomb-bay doors, right where the rod goes in.

Speaking of the rod for the flying base, I used a #6 machine screw and some washers for added weight so the thing wouldn't tip over on me. inside the Harpy is a half inch long #6 standoff, that sucker is screwed into the Carnifex body with a short #6 screw through the hole in the Carnifex body that the little knob on the tail section fits into.

I think im going to add some poison sacs to the tail peice, right where the talon is, kind of like the trygon tail. I was also thinking of doing something like the garoyles, with a spike on the nose.

anywho, here's the pics!

Tyranids, Tervigon!

Here are the claws from the previous Tyranid post, put on the Tervigon. She's still a bit of a work in progress, I've been thinking about some additions: maybe breaking the old 6 limb rule and putting some small warrior talons front chest, or coming up with an actual termagant hatching thing, or eggsac or something. I also plan on putting it on a large Trygon base with some gaunts, because I'm really big on the suffix's determine base size, Trygon-Tervigon, Carnifex-Tyranofex.

Anyway, here she is thus far. Trygon body and big claws, Carnifex leds/tail/head. The mandibles are the Trygon prime mandibles cut down, keeping a bit of the tube thats on it to go reach behind the head a bit. I magnetized the inside a little so I could attach a clusterspine carapace peice if I wanted to, or just attach some sort of back mounted cannon and make them Tyrannofex's.

Tyranids, crushing claw conversion

Wow, long time no post, sorry about that. Its been a busy summer for me, so that's my excuse!

Anyway, I always thought that crushing claws were a little wimpy looking. I wanted something a little more devastating, bigger, stronger. taking inspiration from the forgeworld claws! When I do conversions I like to make sure that there is little to no greenstuff work, because I suck at it. so here is what I've come up with and its pretty simple to do.

I should have took some pictures, along the way, during the conversion. oh well, next time. I'm going to build two sets. But I won't leave you hanging, there's some written instruction below the pictures. oh and a quick note here, you will notice i used the spiky carnifex carapace peice for the conversion, you can use what you like. I was thinking that the one with the holes would make for a great old one eye crushing claws.

4 crushing claws
2 carnifex carapace
2 carnifex scything tail

Take 4 crushing claws. cut the arms off right at the point the armor ends on the forearm. if you look at the crushing claw you will see a small notch in the armor, I used this as a guide to drill a pin to connect the two claws evenly. Fit them as you like, did you want the two claws to be even with each other or one a little curled in or out from the other.

Next take a carnifex carapace peice and cut the sides off. The double claw you have can glue right on the end of the carapace that has the nub, fit it how you like, imagine if you want the claws open or closed. its up to you.

Then you take one of the crushing claw arms, for mine I used the left arm for both my claws, because the left crushing claw arm is little more outstretched than the right one. But its up to you, if you want the right arm to be a little more folded at the elbow, go ahead and use the right arm. Anyway, glue that on to the carapace, I aligned it so that the front part of the forearm touched the claws. This makes the arm shorter, but if you your crushing claw forearm to be longer you can position it how you like

After that you will have to cut the left over arms at the elbow, position it so that the little spikes on the crushing claw elbow line up with the rounded grove of the carapace. This will allow them to be seen clearly. You will need to shave a bit off the inside of this arm so that it sits level with the other arm for the next step.

Take the scything tail and cut the blades off them, to make a knuckle, don't ruin the blades, one of them are going to be the thymb claw. Now glue on the knuckle, for me, the pointy tip of the knuckle lined up with the elbow of the arm and the knuckle part sat a little up from the claws. Thats the important bit. You want the thumb knuckle to be a little higher than the crusher fingers. I positioned my knuckle in the middle, but you can offset it like an opposable thumb if you like.

Finally, the thumb claw. I pinned mine, find a position on the knuckle you like and put that sucker on there and your done, save a little green stuff or personalization.

Whats left to do: a little greenstuff work and do something with the elbow.

Bahz's Tyranid's, DoM wip

my idea of a doom is that of a soul sucking brain monster! I geuss, that's actually what it is, but what to do?

the base: the thought is to use that little tyranid terrain peice from one of the starter sets, can't recal which one, as a base. it has that same little peice that curls up that makes a zoanthrope look like it's floating.

the body: a venomthrope body, its got larget spine exhasts, and the posion sacks can be more brainmatter, too much brain in the doom to confine to a head! hehe.

the head: zoanthrop head, mawloc jaw, carnifex head. i'll be using the top part of a fex head to help make the mouth area look larger and more menacing.

here is the starting concept layed out on my workbench
