I'm using Island of Blood rat ogres as standard grotesques and a daemon prince as the grotesque aberration. here's a pic of what I'm thinking about.

There's a few thing's I'm still hammering out: I'm not sure if I like the armpit rending claw on the aberration. For his right arm, I'll probably cut off the claw thing just above the needle tip, to move the flesh gauntlet back to the wrist. I was thinking just replacing the left arm with a Talos one with the big scythe on it.

All together not bad, I really just wanted to see how a daemon prince size grotesque aberration goes with IoB rat ogre sized grotesques.

Here is the unit that I am building:

Urien Rakarth
Haemonculus - liquifier, agonizer
Grotesque - aberation, flesh gauntlet
Grotesque - liquifier
Grotesque
So I haven't posted in a year mostly due to the lack of a camera. I have taken some pics with my Iphone of my new Grey Knights army I have started. I am tired of having only partly painted army to play with so I have made a rule that I can not have any more that 2 boxes of models until they are 100% done. So far I have a 5 man squad of marines done and a 5 man squad of termies and a Dreadknight almost complete.

I am trying something different with this army and I am starting to use airbrushes. I am using a color layer spraying style to make a since of having a light source. Here is a few picks that I have, not the greatest pics but i am hoping that before the end of the year I will have a digital SLR cam like Bahz's so I can take some pics and so some step by step on how I spray and some conversions.

The bottom pic is almost what my Dreadknight looks like now, I have a bit more of the details filled in. I have a Bloodletter coming in from ebay that I am gloing to place on the metal plate standing off against the Dreadknight.Nerbertohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08981653558786489565noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617850008404053734.post-29226176401303631512011-05-13T17:59:00.000-07:002011-05-13T17:59:19.977-07:00Tyranids, Tervigon with 8 limbs?ok so, I was messing around with the tervigon concept again. Just trying to make it less like a carnifex. I have a plan to put the third row of spine vents on them, but waiting on the parts. anyway, I was thinking about support talons, like in the description, to support it's weight. I mocked up putting an extra set of talons, which actually doesn't look too bad, but it put's the limb count up to 8! Although, it doesn't look to bad, just trying to decide should they be more front and defensive, or on the sides and open. what do you think? like them? front or side?

Edit: I have an idea; I could stick to six limbs and still get the extra support talons, with two forarms at the elbow! Just like the venomcannons and other large bioweapons. The arm starts off normal which then splits at the elbow with two forearms, just like the venomcannon. but instead of the two hands fused to the gun, the hands each have scything talons.
I'll be working on a couple of Razorbacks and Landraiders next. Not much to talk about, but the librarian, he's an old one that I had in my bits box, put a chaos warrior cloak on there and he's done, oh and the backpack is magnetized just in case someone wants to put a jump pack on him, hahaha.
Just finished up the terminators last night and are currently painting some devastators. I like how the Terminators turned out, as with most of my White Scars, I like to leave the red highlight to something small. So, on the Terminators, I freehanded a line around the shoulder plate sheild. I've been thinking about doing a red scar across one of the eyes of all the dudes, but I can save that for later, after the army is basically done.

anyway, here they are!

Bahzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07969293532432790662noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617850008404053734.post-43060826410905850882011-02-06T03:41:00.000-08:002011-02-06T04:18:00.144-08:00White Scars, part 6 - Drop Pods!

I've been working away on the tyranids, building an old one eye - tyrannofex conversion. Pondering a way to use barbed strangers as a lower jaw for a tyrannofex head, I looked over at the White Scars project gathering dust and got the motivation to start working on them again. So here are the finished drop pods, pretty standard stuff.

I thinking of painting the globe inside Ice blue, but the wife likes them plain like this. Plain is less work, hahaha. I'm still touching up the white, I've made mistakes and flicked black or silver around. Since thats gotta be fixed, I might change my mind on the blue while I'm at it

Like all the other White Scars that I've been doing, you will notice there is very little red details, I'm looking at doing some freehand designs for that. For the troops, I think that I've settled on a red lightning bolt across their left eyes. For the tanks, I've not yet decided.Bahzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07969293532432790662noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617850008404053734.post-47970172115186016072010-11-13T09:55:00.000-08:002010-11-13T10:01:26.699-08:00Tyranids, Tervigon Update! The main comment I had about the start of my Tervigon was that it looked too much like a big Carnifex, it was true, but I was stumped. I needed to add a row of spine nubs along the center of the back, but I just couldn't come up with a good solution to the birthing chamber. until now!

Ravener kit to the rescue! hahahaaa! Seriously that kit comes with 12 chests for 3 dudes, so lots of left overs.

I thought about adding a large carnifex spike out the front of the birthing chamber curved up under the chin, a side profile would make it look like the hive guard, but I'm not sure. I also thought about using the barbed strangler sac and tube attached under the hip with the tube going to where the back spike is on the birthing chamber, but meh, not sure about that either. With the Mawloc jaws on each side, they look like broken ribs, kind of like the codex picture for the Tervigon, which is always cool.

I removed the crushing claws so you can have a good look at the birthing chamber. There is still work to do. Anyway, here's the latest update, what do you think?
Using the left over bits from the trygon kit used to make the Tervigon, a Carnifex tail and body, 2 venomcannons (but you could easily use barbedstranglers if you would like.), and of course balrog wings. I also used a pair of spinefists for the spore-bomb-bay doors, right where the rod goes in.

Speaking of the rod for the flying base, I used a #6 machine screw and some washers for added weight so the thing wouldn't tip over on me. inside the Harpy is a half inch long #6 standoff, that sucker is screwed into the Carnifex body with a short #6 screw through the hole in the Carnifex body that the little knob on the tail section fits into.

I think im going to add some poison sacs to the tail peice, right where the talon is, kind of like the trygon tail. I was also thinking of doing something like the garoyles, with a spike on the nose.

anywho, here's the pics!
She's still a bit of a work in progress, I've been thinking about some additions: maybe breaking the old 6 limb rule and putting some small warrior talons front chest, or coming up with an actual termagant hatching thing, or eggsac or something. I also plan on putting it on a large Trygon base with some gaunts, because I'm really big on the suffix's determine base size, Trygon-Tervigon, Carnifex-Tyranofex.

Anyway, here she is thus far. Trygon body and big claws, Carnifex leds/tail/head. The mandibles are the Trygon prime mandibles cut down, keeping a bit of the tube thats on it to go reach behind the head a bit. I magnetized the inside a little so I could attach a clusterspine carapace peice if I wanted to, or just attach some sort of back mounted cannon and make them Tyrannofex's.

Its been a busy summer for me, so that's my excuse!

Anyway, I always thought that crushing claws were a little wimpy looking. I wanted something a little more devastating, bigger, stronger. taking inspiration from the forgeworld claws! When I do conversions I like to make sure that there is little to no greenstuff work, because I suck at it. so here is what I've come up with and its pretty simple to do.

I should have took some pictures, along the way, during the conversion. oh well, next time. I'm going to build two sets. But I won't leave you hanging, there's some written instruction below the pictures. oh and a quick note here, you will notice i used the spiky carnifex carapace peice for the conversion, you can use what you like. I was thinking that the one with the holes would make for a great old one eye crushing claws.

4 crushing claws
2 carnifex carapace
2 carnifex scything tail

Take 4 crushing claws. cut the arms off right at the point the armor ends on the forearm. if you look at the crushing claw you will see a small notch in the armor, I used this as a guide to drill a pin to connect the two claws evenly. Fit them as you like, did you want the two claws to be even with each other or one a little curled in or out from the other.

Next take a carnifex carapace peice and cut the sides off. The double claw you have can glue right on the end of the carapace that has the nub, fit it how you like, imagine if you want the claws open or closed. its up to you.

Then you take one of the crushing claw arms, for mine I used the left arm for both my claws, because the left crushing claw arm is little more outstretched than the right one. But its up to you, if you want the right arm to be a little more folded at the elbow, go ahead and use the right arm. Anyway, glue that on to the carapace, I aligned it so that the front part of the forearm touched the claws. This makes the arm shorter, but if you your crushing claw forearm to be longer you can position it how you like

After that you will have to cut the left over arms at the elbow, position it so that the little spikes on the crushing claw elbow line up with the rounded grove of the carapace. This will allow them to be seen clearly. You will need to shave a bit off the inside of this arm so that it sits level with the other arm for the next step.

Take the scything tail and cut the blades off them, to make a knuckle, don't ruin the blades, one of them are going to be the thymb claw. Now glue on the knuckle, for me, the pointy tip of the knuckle lined up with the elbow of the arm and the knuckle part sat a little up from the claws. Thats the important bit. You want the thumb knuckle to be a little higher than the crusher fingers. I positioned my knuckle in the middle, but you can offset it like an opposable thumb if you like.

Finally, the thumb claw. I pinned mine, find a position on the knuckle you like and put that sucker on there and your done, save a little green stuff or personalization.

Whats left to do: a little greenstuff work and do something with the elbow.Bahzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07969293532432790662noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617850008404053734.post-86745658857067950582010-08-30T13:18:00.000-07:002010-08-31T06:46:19.491-07:00Skulltaker's JuggernautHere is a quick conversion of Skulltaker riding a Juggernaut. I might replace the flaming skull with a shield or a standard or simply just a claw hand, I'm not a big fan of the flaming skull.
Peter at Sword'n'Steele wanted something meaner with more muscle than the last version. although it had more of a chopper feel, it was still really close to what the current command squad bikes look like, just with the daemon skull on it. so, I made it longer, more pipes, some blades on the front. I like it, it stands out and looks mean.
I started with the green cause of course its an Ork. I like using a ligher green, so I stuck to the good old Goblin Green. I also have used Snot Green as well but I do find that after a coat of wash the details are nice and it looks more fleshy.

Then it was time for the clothing. To me when I think of a Weirdboy I think of a wizard....its strange but it does lol. And to me purple is the only choice for the robes. So I gave him a coat of Liche Purple. I was also debating going with a dark blue or a gray so it might be changed by next week.

I then turned my attention to the Gretchin holding him back. I started out doing a Bad Moons army, but I have a large number of painted ork models on loan in my collection painted many different colors so I said why not do a Waaagh instead. In my army the burners are members of the Evil Suns, I use them in trucks to drive up and blast groups of troops. So looking at the model the Gretchin look like they are wearing little flamer gloves to protect themselves for the energy from the Weirdboy. I gave them a coat of Mechrite Red with the plan to put a coat of Blood Red over it.

I am hoping to get back at this tommorow and lay down some more base colors and maybe start in on some of the details and clean up so miss strokes.Nerbertohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08981653558786489565noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617850008404053734.post-27987451723668155092010-08-11T19:19:00.000-07:002010-08-18T09:57:48.394-07:00Project Weirdboy

So good news everyone, My grandmother is feeling better so now I have time to do a step by step instruction for an new model. Sense someone bought the Big Mek with Shokk attack gun not knowing that it was mine (lol) I picked up a Weirdboy to paint. So here he is! I assembled him last night and of course like every metal model he was a pain in the butt to put together. I managed to and cleaned him up a but i am sure I missed some the metal for the injection points and this guy has lots of them.

I use to use the GW chaos black which I found worked well but it only had one problem.........Its 15 bucks. I now use Krylon flat finish paints and I have to say I like them, the work well on plastic and metal and most importantly its only $4.99 a can.

So with the base coat done I find it easier to spot any sections that might need a little cleaning. So I now have it cleaned up a little better and another light coat of black put on. Hopefully if I have the time tomorrow I will start doing the base colors.
Nerbertohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08981653558786489565noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617850008404053734.post-53084732596958422672010-08-11T19:03:00.000-07:002010-08-18T09:59:25.231-07:00Boss Zagstruk
Well Sence my last post I have bounced around from Orks to Space Wolves. Now I like doing my other minis, Orks are always what I fall Back on.

I just finished putting together and painting a 5 man long fang squad and a lone wolf with trophy deamon wings mounted on his back pack and I planned on picking up old Zagstruck to do a step by step instruction of painting him for the blog.

Well as some of you already know My grandmother fell ill over the last few months and my plan to do the boss for here got put to the wayside. I ended up painting him to relax over that time and I only just snapped a few pics of him now and slaped them up. So Enjoy.
So I have posted some ork stuff but now i am going to post some stuff that I am currently working on, Space Wolves. Its in all sorts of different stages of modleing and painting but I am working on a drop pod assembly post. So Here are some of my pack.Nerbertohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08981653558786489565noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617850008404053734.post-74537867356160201252010-06-06T11:13:00.000-07:002010-06-06T11:51:51.591-07:00Daemon Pics 1Here's a few of my Daemons that I have completed, or are mostly complete. The Bloodcrusher is pretty much done, he has taken a few dings in transportation though.

The Nurgle Prince is for the most part complete. Couple of touch ups to do on him like painting the green stuff where the wings meet his body and some other minor touch ups. His wings are from a McFarlane Ice Dragon.

I also used the base that came with the Ice Dragon as the base for my Herald of Tzeentch. I had considered him complete months ago when I actually painted him, but looking at him now I can see there are quite a few things I would like to change or touch up on him for sure. For the Herald I used a WFB Tzeentch Lord I believe it was and threw a couple of Screamers on there to pull the disc and create a chariot. I had intended on attaching chains from the disc to the Screamers but I just haven't gotten around to it.

The Screamer is complete, but there are a few things about him I don't like, but future Screamers that I do should turn out better. All in all I do like him.

The Flamer was one of the first Daemon models I painted. Been busy with work and a few things so I haven't gotten a chance to do too much. I also picked up a Greater Daemon of Tzeentch that I was putting together but that will be my next project to post about. So onto the Bloodthirster.

Basically I have done lots of layers of wash. In these photos I have one wing done and the other without any wash. On the membrane of the wings I painted it blood red and layered washes. I started with baal red wash then a couple of layers of devlan mud, then red, then a coupla more layers of devlan mud. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I am debating if I want to do some highlighting, but for now I am calling them done.

As for the skin and the arms/bones of the wings I drybrushed a little blood red, then some blazing orange. Afterwards I applied 4-5 layers of baal red wash. I am pleased with how it turned out but again I may have to do some highlights later to complete it. But as before, for now it is done. When I get colour on everything I will decide about any highlights I may or may not want to do. I have also started to colour a bit of the fur with scorched brown. More info on the fur in later posts. So here are a few updated pics:

So that's pretty much it for now. I have nothing started in a project at the moment but I do have alot that I will be starting after I make more headway into my space wolves but that's another post.
So my collection has a nice few models and I can have lots of choice. Here are some of my favorite models. I have my nob with slugga and power klaw with the pet squig on the boss pole. Then I have a loota with a space marine backpack, a arm off a XV8 with a Tau weapon attached and a bolter. Lastly I have my Stompa. This thing is the model that took most of my time to paint and it came out pretty good I have to say I was really happy with it when I put the brush down.Nerbertohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08981653558786489565noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5617850008404053734.post-21019358054213707282010-05-30T12:02:00.000-07:002010-06-04T04:34:07.334-07:00White Scars, part 4
ok starting everything transport, haha. 2 drop pods, 2 landraiders, 2 razorbacks. yep, I do beleave I will have snow blindness. this will help put a lot of large models on the table, and landraiders are fun!

If you are in the St John's area of newfoundland, head down to Sword 'n' Steele and have a closer look. I know, White Scars don't use dreads, haha. Yet, they are marines, and besides drop pod ironclads works great in a White Scars list.
